COMEDIAN GREG GIRALDO DIES

Very sad and unexpected news. Comedian and Howard Stern show regular Greg Giraldo has died. He was just 44 years old. Giraldo was best known for his genious performances on the Comedy Central Roasts. This past summer, he also served as one of the judges on NBC's Last Comic Standing. TMZ reports Giraldo died of an accidental prescription drug overdose. Giraldo was so funny and never got the celebrity he deserved. The roasts won't be the same without him.

All the rumors were true. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are the new judges on American Idol. The big announcements were made live at 1pm/ET online. Ryan Seacrest introduced the new judges to the press. Randy Jackson is the only original judge who remains with the show. Nothing will ever be better than the Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell panel.

NATE BERKUS AND SWIFT JUSTICE HAVE STRONGEST RATINGS OF NEW SYNDIE SHOWS

No surpises here. The Nate Berkus Show and Swift Justice with Nancy Grace are ths most-watched new daytime shows of the new season. Oprah's design guy Nate Berkus averaged a 1.2 rating. That down 8% from its average lead-in, but up 20% from last year's time period average. Swift Justice is the highest rated court show to premiere in four years, since Cristina's Court in 2006. Last week, Nancy Grace's new show averaged a 1.1 rating, down 15% from it's lead-in and down 8% from last year's time period average. The ratings are okay, but not all that impressive. The biggest loser of the new season so far has been Steven & Chris. The Canadian do-it-yourself show was dead in the water last week with a 0.1 rating. The show airs in just a few markets on less-than-stellar stations.

New syndie ratings for the week of September 13:

Nate Berkus - 1.2
Swift Justice with Nancy Grace - 1.1
How I Met Your Mother - 0.9
Access Hollywood Live - 0.8

Curb Your Enthusiasm - 0.7
Entourage - 0.7
Real Housewives - 0.6
New Adventures of Old Christine - 0.6
Steven & Chris - 0.1

4 WNYW REPORTERS TREATED FOR CO POISONING

Being a reporter is a dangerous job. But it wasn't some criminal or angry relative that put four WMYW reporters at risk. It was their own live truck!

The Daily News reports four reporters at the NYC Fox O&O were recently treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after working with the station's remote trucks. Reporters Lisa Evers, Andrea Day, Nicole Johnson and Ti-Hua Chang. Evers became disoriented on the job. A doctor reportedly told her she could have died if she waited any longer for treatment. Several crew members were also treated for exposure to the deadly odorless gas.

The station's live trucks use gas-fueled generators to power equipment when the vehicle isn't moving. New exhaust equipment is being installed on the generators. The situation has gotten the attention of the station's union.

"We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this situation," said station general manager Lew Leone.

MARTHA STEWART PREMIERES TO LOW RATINGS ON HALLMARK CHANNEL

It may be time to pull the plug on the Martha Stewart show. On Monday, the live how-to show moved to the Hallmark channel. Its debut was watched by 199,000 viewers. One year ago, 514,000 viewers watched repeats of the Golden Girls in the same time period. Repeats of Martha did even worse in the afternoon. The 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. of her show brought in just 115,000 and 80,000 viewers - well below the 346,000 and 344,000 who tuned in on Hallmark a year earlier to watch "Little House on the Prairie" and "M*A*S*H." Martha Stewart's people say it may take time for her fans to realize she's moved from syndication to cable. (Hollywood Reporter)

MICHAEL GRIMM WINS AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

The underdog prevailed on America's Got Talent. Singer Michael Grimm won the $1 million prize in last night's finale, besting favorite Jackie Evancho.

“Michael’s genuine, he’s sincere, he’s very talented, he got better with every round, and (on Tuesday night) he gave the performance of his life. He’ll have a huge career. I think he’s like a young Van Morrison,” judge Piers Morgan told People.com.

The 30-year-old was raised by his grandparents. They lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Grimm tells People that he plans to buy them a new house with his winnings.

Grimm says he thought Evancho had it in the bag.

“I was preparing my speech to leave. I couldn’t believe I heard my name," Grimm told People.com.

Evancho joined the season halfway through on a show featuring YouTube acts. The 10-year-old opera phenom blew the audience away with her voice.

DAYTIME TV'S NEW SEASON BRINGS CHANGES

Many syndicated daytime shows kicked off their new seasons on Monday, September 13. Here's what you can expect from some of your favorite shows:

Family Feud - Hosts for this old school game show never seem to stick around for more than four years. John O'Hurley has been replaced with comedian Steve Harvey. The Feud also has a new set and is now being taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Producers are moved the show from Los Angeles, hoping it would be easier to fill the audience in Orlando.

Extra - The newsmagazine turned entertainment show has ditched their set and is now broadcasting from The Grove in Hollywood. The Grove is a popular shopping and dining spot for celebs in the city. The show is also now focusing on coast-to-coast coverage, with correspondents in Las Vegas, New York City and South Beach in Miami checking in each day. The show also has new graphics this season.

Jerry Springer - The king of tabloid tv returns for his 20th season. No major changes to the show, since it got new graphics and a tweaked set last year.

Maury - No changes for the new season. Still plenty of paternity and lie detector tests.

Steve Wilkos - Jerry Springer's former head of security is back for his fourth season. No changes to his show. Last season, the show moved to CT and got a brand new set.

Judge Joe Brown - A familiar face is missing from the cast of Judge Joe Brown this season. Court reporter Jacque Kessler has been replaced with former Fox Sports reporter, Jeanne Zelasko.

Judge Judy - No changes for the queen of court's show. JJ could really use a new set and graphics. The set has been the sam since the show's launch. The graphics and open have been the same for five seasons.

Oprah Winfrey - The queen of talk is back for her 25th and final season. Check out the Daily Edition's story on her premiere.

Ellen Degeneres - Season eight for Ellen Degeneres. The show has a new wall, which opens when Ellen walks about at the start of the show. Check out the Daily Edition's story about her star-studded season premiere.

Dr. Phil - Season nine for Dr. Phil. The show has new graphics this season. Also, each Tuesday Dr. Phil will ride the coattails of the Real Housewives popularity with his own Dr. Phil Housewives shows.

Next Monday, new show Judge Karen's Court and America's Court with Judge Ross are set to premiere.

Oprah got a surprise of her own. The staff surprised her the music legend Paul Simon. 15 years ago, the singer wrote her theme song. He reworked it and performed it for Oprah for season 25. The talk show queen was touched, crying throughout the song.

RECAP OF THE 2010 VMA'S

The bar was set very high. In 2009, Lady Gaga had a killer performance, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys closed the show with "Empire State of Mind" and, oh yeah, Kanye West stole Taylor Swift's thunder. The 2010 MTV Music Video Awards had a lot to live up to, but proved fairly tame compared to last year's show.

The show opened with Eminem performing his anthem, "Not Afraid." He was joined by Rihanna for a performance of their summer smash, "Love the Way You Lie." There was potential for creating a really moving, unforgettable performance here. Instead, Rihanna was wearing an ugly tutu-like dress and it seemed like there just wasn't much time put into the performance.

The sometimes funny Chelsea Handler hosted the show. She came out trying to do her best Lady Gaga impression, with an over-the-top outfit. Her jokes seemed to fall flat on the audince for her open and throughout the show. Bring Chris Rock back.

The performances were so-so. Justin Bieber performed outside of the studio to a bunch of screaming girls. He tried showing off his drumming skills, which proved elementary at best. Back in studio, Bieber's buddy, Usher, performed the over-hyped "OMG." Florence and the Machine (I've never heard of them either) sang their hit song, whatever that is and Linkin Park delivered on a dramtic performance of their new single.

You were buzzing about them last year and this year there's probably plenty of water cooler talk about Taylor Swift and Kanye West. Once again, they stole the show. Taylor performed a not-yet-titled song about Kanye West. "32 and still growing up now. Who you are is not what you did You're still an innocent," Taylor sang. Really strong performace.

Kanye West closed the show. Wearing bright red on the black and white set, clearly Kanye felt like the devil in the room. He debuted his new song, "Runaway." It's catchy and ironic chorus, "Let's have a toast for the douchebags. Let's have a toast for the assholes. Let's have a toast for the scumbags." He may have been an outcast last year, but by the end of this song, Kanye had won over the room. All was forgiven.

NEW SEASON OF DAYTIME

A bunch of new daytime shows kicked off their new seasons on Labor Day. As always, there were plenty of changes.

The Wendy Williams Show was back for season two with a brand new set. She also has a monitor behind her now for "hot topics." The show is promising all sorts of new segment for the new season. Wendy tried out one of them yesterday, featuring clips from the Internet.

A bunch of court shows also returned yesterday. Divorce Court started it's new season with a brand new set. Judge Mathis got some much-needed new graphics and a new open. Judge Alex was back with some subtle set tweaks. People's Court was also back with new shows. No changes as always. People's Court has needed a new set for about 8 years now.

Next Monday, September 13, is pretty much premiere day for daytime. It's Oprah's season premiere for her big last season. The Nate Berkus Show also premieres. Real Housewives, Entourage, How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Curb Your Enthusiasm all go into syndication next Monday.
