The Big Six

General Electric, Time Warner, Walt Disney, Newscorp, CBS and Viacom control the media in the United States. Here's what is controlled by ownly six mega-media corporations:

With six corporations controlling the media, there's plenty of room for cross-promotion. The problem is, many times you don't even realize companies are plugging their own shows/magazines, etc. For example, Entertainment Tonight does a segment on Rachael Ray's new show just about every night. It's not because ET producers love her show. It's because "Entertainment Tonight" (Paramount Studios) and the "Rachael Ray Show" (King World) are all under the same Viacom/CBS Corp umbrella. They are simply using one show to promote another. Very sneaky, but very common!
