EXTREME CHEAPSKATES

Roy freely admits he's the world's biggest cheapskate and he's proud of it. TLC followed Roy and other penny pinchers around for their new documentary, "Extreme Cheapskates." Cameras caught Roy grabbing leftover food from other people's tables at restaurants. He uses paper towels more than once and was even caught picking up grains of rice off of a dirty sidewalk. Nasty.
Unfortunately for Roy's wife, it was 25th anniversary and Roy wasn't about to splurge. He jumped into a dumpster to find her some tokens of (in) affection. It was Roy's lucky day. He discovered some half-dead roses and a used tea pot in the trash. What a stud. Then, he went to his local discount store and bought her some animal crackers and a bottle of water for 15 cents. To top it all off, he recycled a "get well soon" card, scratching off the words to fit the occasion. It's amazing that she didn't go running to divorce court 25 years ago.

HOWARD STERN JOINS AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

Howard Stern ended 2011 with a bang. On Thursday, he put weeks of rumors to rest, announcing he will be a judge on NBC's America's Got Talent next summer. For weeks, rumors have been swirling about Stern joining the show. It will now be taped in New York City to accommodate Stern's Sirus/XM radio show. Howie Mandel is psyched about Stern judging along with him. Of course, the Parents' Television Council is already blasting NBC for hiring Stern. If you don't like it, don't watch it! Stern knows music and is a fan of the show. He'll be a great addition to AGT. Piers Morgan probably should have stayed on board. His CNN show is not doing well in the ratings.

LIL JON PART OF NEW CELEBRITY APPRENTICE CAST

Donald Trump stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. He didn't say if he plans to run for president, but he did reveal the cast for the next season of Celebrity Apprentice. Gary Busey, Lil Jon, Jose Canseco, Lisa Rinna, Star Jones, Dionne Warwick, La Toya Jackson, Marlee Matlin, Richard Hatch. Mark McGrath, Meatloaf and David Cassidy are among the celebs appearing on season 11 of the show. Gary Busey is rerason enough to watch it. The new season kicks off on March 6 on NBC.

MORE "CELEBRITY REHAB" UPDATES

The cast of VH1's CELEBRITY REHAB WITH DR. DREW reunited for a 90-minute special last night. Everyone is doing incredibly well since the show wrapped last August.
Seth "Shifty" Binzer - is still in recovery. He relapsed shortly before this special and admits he still has a long road ahead of him. He's now working on new music and his relationship with his wife and son.
Ricco Rodriguez - has been completely clean since the show. He completed a 90-day program and is back at work in the fighting industry to support his family.
Brigitte Nielson - has quit alcohol and smoking cigarettes. She says her husband has been her support throughout and is happy to be sober for him and her three sons.
Chyna - is still working on herself by seeing a therapist. She admits to a glass of wine here and there and is trying to focus her energy on herself by hitting the gym again.
Mary Carey - still drinks now and then, but feels like she has control of herself. She says she has not appeared in any adult films since the show, but still feature dances for money. She hopes she'll be able to quit that one day. Carey credited Dr. Drew with saving her life.
Jaimee Foxworth - still smoke marijuana, but not as much as before. She says she feels like she has control of her addiction now. Jaimee's mother appeared on the reunion and asked her to quit weed completely and told her she believes in her.
Jeff Conaway - left CELEBRITY REHAB early so her could have surgery. He has had four surgeries since the show and has another planned. He's still taking heavy drugs to deal with back pain. Dr. Drew told Jeff he wants him off those drugs and he said he would try in the future. Conaway credited his girlfriend with helping him to get better. Brigitte Nielson told Vikki that she's a "mess" and should get some help. Vikki said she felt like she was being attacked. Dr. Drew thanked Vikki for helping Jeff and said that he could provide her with help if she wanted it. (Since this show, Jeff appeared on INSIDE EDITION and admitted he's kicked his habit thanks to Scientology. He says John Travolta got him into the controversial religion.)
Daniel Baldwin - did not appear on the reunion show. All of the celebrities were resentful of Baldwin for leaving early. Jeff said that everyone was a family and did not appreciate how Daniel hit on Marey Carey. Dr. Drew wished Baldwin only good things in the future.
Jessica Sierra - did not appear on the reunion show. She was called to court in Florida after the show. Dr. Drew cautioned her that going would lead to a relapse, which it did. Sierra was arrested and faced 10 years in jail. Dr. Drew flew to Florida to appear in court with Jessica. He urged the judge to let her do to rehab because 10 years behind bars would be the end of her. Sierra is now back in Dr. Drew's rehab until January 2009. If she does anything wrong, she'll be sent to jail. Jessica's sister appared on the reunion show. She read an emotional letter from Jessica, which thanked Dr. Drew for saving her life.

VH1 ANNOUNCES NEW SHOWS

VH1's "Celebreality" brand keeps on bringing in great ratings, so the network is going to add to it. VH1 is planning several new reality shows and spinoffs from its other ratings winners.
"The Cho Show" (seven episodes) chronicles comedian Cho's "anything goes" lifestyle as well as her interactions with her friends and parents. It's executive produced by Rico Martinez and Cho for Crossroads Television.
"Luke's Parental Advisory" (eight episodes) follows Campbell as he juggles being a dad to two teenagers with running his adult-entertainment business Luke Entertainment Group and planning a wedding with his fiancee. The series, a production of VH1 in conjunction with Pink Sneakers Prods., is executive produced by Kimberly Belcher Cowin.
"New York Goes to Hollywood" (10 episodes) features Pollard, star of VH1's looking-for-love competition series "I Love New York," as she moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming an actress (putting her relationship with her most recent pick, Tailor Made, on the "backburner"). The series is created and executive produced by Mark Cronin and Cris Abrego for Mindless Entertainment and 51 Pictures.
"Brooke Hogan Knows Best" (10 episodes) evolved out of VH1's "Hogan Knows Best," starring Hulk Hogan and his family, including daughter Brooke. The new series will follow her as she moves to Miami to start a new life on her own. Her family, including her parents, are expected to make appearances from time to time. Belcher Cowin also is exec producing "Brooke," from VH1 and Pink Sneakers.
The cable net is also planning two hour-long rock documentaries about James Brown and Elton John. Also look for a "Storytellers" featuring Snoop Dogg.

"CELEBRITY REHAB" UPDATES

Dr. Drew Pinsky appeared on Good Day L.A. this morning and talked about how some of his patients on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" are doing now. He said Brigitte Nielsen is doing very well and has even given up smoking cigarettes. Jessica Sierra has been court-ordered to stay away from TV cameras and has entered a treatment program in California. Dr. Drew says she's also doing well. It seems China still has some work to do. Dr. Drew said he hopes she will get further treatment for her bipolar disorder. "Celebrity Rehab's" toughest case, Jeff Conaway, still has a long road ahead of him. His girlfriend, Vicki, is portrayed as an enabler in the show, but Dr. Drew says we'll see that she's taking steps to get better in a future episode. If you're looking for more "Celebrity Rehab" updates, you're in luck. A special "Celebrity Rehab" update show will air on VH1 on March 13.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER IS BACK

"Dog The Bounty Hunter" is coming back to television. TMZ reports the show is going back into production, although no premiere date has been set. A&E suspended production of the show indefinitely after Dog was caught dropping several N-bombs in a recorded phone call with his son. Dog went on a tour of forgiveness. He cried on Larry King Live and even went as far as saying he wants to be buried in a slave cemetery. "Dog The Bounty Hunter" is one of A&E's highest rated shows, so it's no surprise the network is giving Dog a second chance.

Most Shocking Intervention Yet

Intervention (A&E Fridays at 10pm) follows addicts of all kinds as they struggle through their daily lives. Each show follows one person who is battling some kind of addiction. At the end of the show, family members surprise the subject with a live-changing intervention in a last ditch effort to get them clean.Last night's show was particulary shocking. Laney was left with millions of dollars after her and her ex-husband cashed in on the Dot Com boom. She had the perfect marriage, but past issues with men, including a brutal rape by an ex-boyfriend, ruined her marriage and prompted her to drink heavily. She's now living alone in a mansion in Kansas and drinks so much that her liver is functioning at only 20 percent. Her best friend is her cat, which she takes everywhere with her. When she visited family in New York, she spent $10,000 on a limo to get her and the cat back home.
As Laney's family planned an intervention, Laney hit rock bottom at her home. When producers of the show weren't looking, Laney downed a bottle of pills in a suicide attempt. Producers called 911 after realizing what she did and she was rushed to the hospital where she almost died. As her worried family visited her in her hospital bed, Laney denied taking the pills and blamed her own mother for her overdose, even though her mother wasn't even with her at the time.
Before getting out of the hospital, Laney heard that her family was planning an intervention. She had plans to skip town, but her family and interventionists showed up at her home to help her. Laney locked all of her doors and called the police on her own family, who were forced to spend hours waiting for her to come out of her house. They finally convinced her to go to rehab and she boarded a limo with her cat and drove cross country to a rehab in Florida. As soon as she arrived at rehab, Laney had second thoughts, but was finally convinced to get help.
Sadly, at the end of the show, we learn that Laney left rehab after only two days. She returned home and is running low on money. Since the intervention, her family has refused to talk to her.
Just a heart-breaking story. It proves that money really can't buy you happiness and that some people just can't be helped. This show has helped so many desperate people, but it seems Laney may be a lost cause.

Kidney Show Was a Hoax!

It got got tons of press this week for being so over-the-top. A Dutch reality show was going to hook up a dying woman with a recipient for her kidneys. Turns out the whole this was a hoax to bring attention to the shortage of donor organs in the Netherlands. Just before "The Big Donor Show" was set to air producers Endemol, who also produce "Big Brother," admitted the woman staring the reality show was just a healthy actress. But the contestants who were trying to win kidneys are very real and still in need of kidneys. Everyone knew the show was a hoax before they agreed to participate.
"In staging this program, our goal has been to prompt a debate about this crisis in the Netherlands," said Paul Romer, the director of Endemol Netherlands. "In fact the impact of this has gone far wider than we imagined. This is an issue that goes beyond Dutch borders and across Europe. The message we want to send is that people need to take action now and fill in a donor card."

Subway Hero Loses on "Deal or No Deal"

The New York subway hero, Wesley Autrey, was given a chance to win $1 million on NBC's "Deal or No Deal" tonight. Autrey got the attention of the nation earlier this year when he jumped in front of a speeding subway to save a stranger who had a medical attack.
The whole crowd was rooting for Autrey tonight, who kept the million dollars on the board for most of the show. It was down to two cases and his, when he was offered $305,000. Instead of taking the big money, Autrey kept playing. The next case he opened turned out to be the million dollars. Autrey went home with a tiny $25 dollars, but he was also surprised with a brand new car for his heroism.

Springer to Host America's Got Talent

Regis Philbin has stepped down as host of America's Got Talent and will be replaced by talk show host Jerry Springer. Regis says the heavy traveling schedule between New York where his morning show is taped and Los Angeles where AGT is taped was just too much. Jerry Springer appeared on the last season of Dancing With the Stars and has hosted the syndicated Jerry Springer Show for 16 years. Regis always seemed out of place on Amercia's Got Talent. The show is a circus, often with bizarre performances. Springer is not stranger to outrageous guests, so he'll likely be a better fit for the show.

Dancing With The Stars Line-up Announced

The line-up for the new season of "Dancing With Stars" has been announced. I'll fully admit I don't watch this corny show, but it's always interesting to see who will be making a fool of themseleves on national television. Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, Leeza Gibbons and The Sopranos' Vincent Pastore are among the dancers. The most controversial contestant: Paul McCartney's ex, Heather Mills. This woman is hated overseas and isn't exactly loved here. People think she's a gold digger. Not to mention, how in the hell is she going to dance with a prosthetic leg?

It's time for Simon Cowell to take a break. He's great on AMERICAN IDOL but he should stick to what he does best. All of these IDOL hybrid shows he's producing are simply second-rate. Tonight's debut of CELEBRITY DUETS is proof of that. The show pairs celebs known for their singing up with celebs not known for carrying a tune. I'll admit, the results are somewhat amusing. But this show is a rip of AMERICAN IDOL, just as AMERICA's GOT TALENT was. Same-looking intro. Same-looking set. Two male judges. One female judge. It's all getting bland. I think Cowell may be shooting himself in the foot with all these shows. If there are so many AMERICAN IDOL-like shows airing year-round, who needs to watch the real thing come January?

Segregated Survivor

Here's a sure sign that SURVIVOR is running low on ideas. The show is separating contestants based on race for its upcoming season. Whites on one team. Blacks on another. It may not be 1950, but producers of the long-running CBS reality show seem to think segregation is a good idea. Of course, the move is already being criticized (as well it should be). "The truth is 80 percent of the people that apply are white. And television, in general, is white. So all these criticisms were valid," says host Jeff Probst. CBS says this is a creative decision and it trusts its producers to be responsible. Sounds like all of this is just one big publicity stunt to increase the ratings of an aging show.

Gotta laugh at some of the celebrities who have been picked for the latest edition of ABC's DANCING WITH THE STARS. Just picture Tucker Carlson dancing! Yes, the one-time bowtie-wearing MSNBC host will hit the dance floor this fall. He will be joined by talk show host Jerry Springer. No word on whether he'll be dancing with a midget or a Klansman. Also heading to the dance floor: Vivica A. Fox, Harry Hamlin, Joe Lawrence, Mario Lopez, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, former beauty queen Shanna Moakler and three-time Super Bowl champion Emmitt Smith. the third season of DANCING WITH THE STARS begins on September 12 on ABC.Labels: reality shows

Cowell's Idol-Sized Salary

A new book claims to shed some light on just how much money Anerican Idol's star judge is making. In his new book, Desperate Networks, New York Times writer Bill Carter claims Simon Cowell rakes an idol-sized $36 million bucks a year. He also says the show does not air in the fall because Cowell is busy producing the British reality series, X-Factor, which he also appears in. The book also claims that while other hit shows offer about 24 hours of new programming a year, Idol offers about 45 hours of programming.

Should Ostrosky Dance With The Stars?

Howard Stern's longtime girlfriend Beth Ostrosky has been asked to be a dancer on the next season of Dancing With The Stars. If she accepts, she has to go to dance lessons and travel to California for six weeks in September to take part in the show. The problem: will this help or hurt her career? The question has sparked much debate on the Stern show. Dancing With The Stars has given a boost to C-list stars like Drew Lachey. But he used to be an A-lister as part of 98 Degrees. It certainly seems that most people who appear on Dancing With The Stars use it as a way of reviving their careers, NOT as a way of launching their careers. Will this really help her career in the longrun and make her a legitimate star? Or, will she get a few gigs because of the exposure before declining back to the C-list? Extreme Wish List

When ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition started, the show made over homes for anyone. But now, only families with extreme stories of woe are featured. And that's no accident according to a memo unearthed by The Smoking Gun. Seems only tragedies make for good ratings. The memo was sent by a producer to executives of ABC stations looking for particular maladies or tragedies to feature on the air. As the Smoking Gun notes, the tone of the email seems a bit insensitive based on the subject matter. Here's a few highlights:We are open to any and ALL stories ideas but are especially looking for the following:
* Family who has a child with PROGERIA ("little old man disease")
* Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis, referred to as CIPA by the few people who know about it. (There are 17 known cases in the US - let me know if one is in your town!)
* Home invasion - family robbed, house messed up (vandalized) - kids fear safety in their home now
As the Smoking Gun puts it, it is a rather "creepy wish list of woe." At least the show aims to help those who need it the most.

Dog The Bounty Hunter Season Three

Dog the Bounty Hunter is the highest rated show of all time on A&E and it's back for its third season. If you haven't seen it, the show focuses on bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman and his family who hunt down fugitives in Hawaii. The season opener was by far the best episode yet. The crew left Hawaii for San Francisco and teamed up with local police for one of the most intense hunts yet. They were chasing a $75,000 bond who happened to be Hawaii's most wanted fugitive. If they didn't catch him in three days, they'd have to pay the bond themselves. First, they traced him to a local football team, but he wasn't at practice. The team manager said he did not know where the suspect was. Then, they went to the suspect's house but only found angry family members and a cousin they took in on a warrant. Finally, after lots of letdowns, it was time for the bust. Dog, his crew and armed police moved in on a house where a pickup truck was driving out. They blocked the pickup with their cars. Sitting inside the truck was their man! Dog and his men threw the suspect on the ground and arrested him. Also under arrest, the team manager who claimed he did not know where the suspect was. Turns out, the liar was employing the suspect to work on a house. All new episodes of Dog the Bounty Hunter air Tuesdays at 9PM/EST on A&E.Labels: reality shows
