INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

Star Jones on Larry King

The Star Jones saga continues! Star appeared on Larry King Live last night and discussed how she was shown the door. She claimed executive producer Bill Gettie knew about her firing since last November. She said it was leaked to a newspaper last November and when she asked Gettie if her job was in jeoprady, he said "no." She claims she finally found out that her contract wasn't being renewed in April and came to work for two months like nothing had happened. Here's some of what she said:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I wouldn't be honest if I didn't tell you I was hurt. This is a show that I loved with every ounce of my being. I loved coming to that show. I loved interacting with the viewers...I wanted to share my life and my thoughts and views with them."
"I don't want everyone to think that I all of a sudden came in there on Tuesday and dropped a bombshell to my colleague, Barabara Walters, and said 'I'm leaving.' She's known since April that she didn't renew my contract."
"What I hate about this more than anything... is this is the worst example of what people say about women. I will not be in a catfight. It's not who I am. It's not who I want to be. It's not who I was raised to be."
"200,000 people a year get fired. You know what they do? They look at that obstacle and they go towards opportunity. That's what I am going to do."
"I think this story was concoctated to protect me and to protect the network. I don't need to be protected."
KING: "What are you gunna do now?
STAR: "I'm gunna work on my new television projects. I'm gunna roll my sleeves up and get right back into child advocacy like I've been doing. And I'm gunna continue to grow, Larry, and become the person I aspire to be, every single day."
KING: "So, you are not going away quietly into this good night?"
STAR: "Naah, don't have to pull out that law degree just yet!"

Star Jones Kicked Off The View!

The co-hosts of The View seemed shocked when Star Jones announced she was quitting yesterday. Turns out, Star went off script and did not tell anyone that she was going to announce her departure. This morning, it was Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. No Star Jones. Walters explained that Star has been kicked off the show, effective immediately:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"And then there were three. This is, truthfully, a very difficult day for us, and it is a sad day for us. If you were watching the program yesterday, you would have heard Star announce that she's leaving "The View" and will not be on the program next fall. We didn't expect her to make this statement yesterday. She gave us no warning. And we were taken by surprise. But the truth is that Star has known for months that ABC did not want to renew her contract and that she would not be asked back in the fall. The network made this decision based on a variety of reasons which I won't go into now. But we were never going to say this. We wanted to protect Star. And so we told her that she could say whatever she wanted about why she was leaving and that we would back her up. We worked closely with her representatives and we gave her time to look for another job. We hope she would announce it on the program and leave with dignity. But Star made another choice. And since her announcement yesterday, she has made further announcements that have surprised us. So it is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table. And, therefore, regrettably Star will no longer be on this program, except for some shows that have been prerecorded. "The View" helped make Star a Star, and Star helped make "The View" the success that it is. We will never forget that. We wish her well in this new chapter of her life as we begin a new chapter on The View."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This morning Star lashed back on Ryan Seacrest's radio show in Los Angeles:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm not trying to be emotional about this. I understand it was a business decision. I understood it was a business decision when I was told then. But then in that same week, I was told they were adding a new co-host and it was Rosie O'Donnell. And that was the same week that she had been so nasty and vicious towards me. Rosie insulted me. She tried to damage me professionally and personally... "It's a little shocking to me that Barbara feels betrayed. I was really surprised that Barbara feels betrayed. If you watched me yesterday, I said that she was the most amazing mentor and I thanked her for the most amazing opportunity. My departure was orchestrated some time ago. And while I can accept any business decision, it's hard to accept the manner in which it was handled during the last two months. But, if you use words like betrayal, if anyone should be betrayed, it should be me! Barbara didn't have my back... "

Star Jones Leaving The View

They knew it was coming but they seemed surprised. After a commercial break, Star Jones told the ladies of The View today that she will be leaving the show after nine seasons. When Jones tried to move on to the next subject, but Barbara Walters would not allow it. Instead, she and the other co-hosts praised and thanked Jones. She did not give a reason for leaving, although she did admit that the show is moving in a new direction. Rosie O'Donnell joins The View in September and the two do not get along. Jones says her last day will be in mid-July and she is not sure about what is next. Barbara Walters and Joy Behar are the only original co-hosts left on the show.

Barbara Walters on Sirius

Barbara Walters is joining the world of Sirius Satellite Radio. Starting next year, Sirius will air replays of the reporter's many interviews during a two-hour weekly series. That translates to about four interviews per show. "It is a wonderful way for them to be heard," Walters tells the A.P. "So many of them are classics. It is everything from Lucille Ball and John Wayne and Bing Crosby and George Burns to Matthew McConaughey and Julia Roberts." Walters owns the rights to the interviews she conducted for "The Barbara Walters Special." ABC News owns her "20/20" interviews. Walters will also conduct some call-in programs for Sirius.

American Eating Disorder

The all-American girl has some all-American problems. People magazine reporting that Katharine McPhee struggled with bulimia for five years. The vomiting could have taken away the voice that made her the American Idol runner-up. She says she was hurling her cookies seven times a day at her worst point. After successfully auditioning for the show, the 22-year-old, decided to get some help. Her parents and her 41-year-old boyfriend were there for her. (41-year-old boyfriend!!!) She spent three months in a California eating disorder center and learned to enjoy food. "I really had to surrender and give up having a free life to do the program…I remember that first night, my dad holding me, crying and saying, 'I don't know why you have to suffer through this, but it's going to be okay.' " I think the most interesting thing about all this is that her boyfriend is freggin' 41 years old! That's him below...

Connie Croaks

If you need proof that Connie Chung has lost her mind, here it is. Chung and husband Maury Povich hosted a little known show, Weekends with Maury & Connie, on MSNBC for about six months. The show was just canned and aired for the last time this weekend. But it went out with a bang, as Chung made a complete ass of herself. It seems, Chung just hasn't been the same since the CBS news days. Wearing an evening gown and gloves, Chung climbed on top of a piano and sang an off-key (and unfunny) rendition of "Thanks For The Memories." She rolled all over the piano, before she got down and collapsed on the floor. Apparently, she never wants to work again. The video is on You Tube.

Cars

Lightning McQueen is a hotshot rookie race car who wants to win every race, escpecially the Piston Cup. He thinks he's big time but soon discovers what life really is about. As an over-tired dig rig carries McQueen to hithe Piston Cup in California, he's accidentally unloaded in the middle of nowhere. McQueen speeds into the sleepy Raditor Springs, tearing up the road as he goes. The town on Route 66 is full of characters who have been there since the good old days. That is, the days before a highway was built straight through the desert. Since the highway was built, the town is dead. Businesses have closed and no one comes through anymore. As McQueen fixes the road he ruined, he realizes that what makes Radiator Springs is the people.

Cars has a great cast. Owen Wilson is the voice of McQueen. Legendary actor Paul Newman voices Hudson Hornet, someone who has a lot in common with McQueen. Bonnie Hunt plays McQueen's love interest, while Larry the Cable Guy brings Mater, McQueen's best friend, to life.
Pixar gets it right again. Cars is the king of the box office for the second week in a row, taking in more than $31 million. It's no wonder why. This movie races past the competition with a perfect combination of humor and heart for all ages. Make sure to get to the movie on time so you don't miss the Pixar animated short, One Man Band, before the movie starts.

Diamond In Debt

Screech has fallen on hard times. Dustin Diamond says he needs your help to keep his house. It seems his parents screwed him out of all his Saved By The Bell money, so his credit is shit. Diamond bought a house on a land contract, but now the land owner is demanding $250,000 in 30 days or he's homeless. To help raise some quick cash, Diamond has launched getdshirts.com. For 15 bucks, you can buy a T-shirt with all the proceeds going to keep Diamond sheltered. Diamond appeared on Howard Stern this morning to appeal to his fans. Stern and the crew bought several shirts. Artie Lang did them one better, inviting Diamond to open two of his upcoming comedy shows in Pittsburgh. The gig pays a cool $2,000. Let's all work together to make sure Screech is not out on the streets.

Geno's Update

What a shock. Geno's is getting grilled for doing the right thing:

One of South Philadelphia's biggest names in cheesesteaks is in a bit of a legal pickle for a lunch-line political statement against immigrants who don't speak English.
The city's Commission on Human Relations yesterday filed a discrimination complaint against Geno's Steaks over signs that read: "This is AMERICA ... WHEN ORDERING SPEAK ENGLISH."
Owner Joey Vento has become a mini-celebrity over the issue and has steadfastly refused to pull down the signs despite the growing legal brouhaha. His son, Geno, said his father would not comment on the matter to The Inquirer.
Reached at his home yesterday evening, the Rev. James S. Allen Sr., commission chairman, said it was incumbent on the commission to get the sign removed.
"We think it is discriminatory, and we are concerned about the image of Philadelphia," he said.
According to the complaint, which was served on Geno's yesterday afternoon, the restaurant is in violation of two sections of the city's antidiscrimination laws: denying service to someone because of his or her national origin, and having printed material making certain groups of people feel their patronage is unwelcome.
In two weeks in the media spotlight, Vento - who has done a whirlwind of local and national talk shows - has defended the sign and said he had no intention of removing it.
He has said it is an immigrant's duty to learn the language and has acknowledged that his strong feelings were directed at Mexican immigrants, whose ranks are growing in South Philadelphia.
Vento, 66, said that the sign had been up for six months without complaint until recently and that it simply spoke to the notion that people who choose to live in this country should endeavor to speak English. He has made a point of saying he had never denied anyone service regardless of language.

NO ENGLISH, NO CHEESESTEAK!
One of Philadelphia's most popular cheesesteak joints says you'd better speak English if you want one of their sandwiches. Joseph Vento, owener of Geno's Steaks, is staking a stand against illegal immigrants at his restaurant. He has signs posted that say, "This is America. When Ordering Speak English." He says his grandparents came over from Italy and learned the language, so should everyopne else. Besides, he runs a fast-paced business and no one has the time to translate for those who don't feel like learning the language of the land. Vento says he's not out to hurt anyone. His English-only policy intends to help customers. Gotta say, I'm with Vento on this one.

The TV Police

Quick! Tune your televisions to EWTN and ABC Family. The television police are out for BLOOD. The government fined CBS affiliates millions of dollars for broadcasting Janet Jackson's live T.V. wardrobe malfunction. Now, they want 10 times more money, if a "shit," a "fuck," or God forbid, A BREAST makes air. It is sickening and mind-blowing to think that THIS is what our government is concerned about. Just beyond pathetic.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government's power to punish broadcasters
for indecent programming such as the 2004 Super Bowl "wardrobe
malfunction" would increase tenfold under legislation Congress is
ready to approve.
The House on Tuesday began debating the Senate-passed bill that
would
boost the top fines the Federal Communications Commission
could impose on broadcasters from the current $32,500 to $325,000
for each violation.
A vote was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
The bill, said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., will
"help ensure
American families that broadcast television and radio programming
will be free of indecency, obscenity (and) profanity at times when
their children are likely to be tuning in."

The legislation, expected to be signed by President Bush, is
another outgrowth of Janet Jackson's breast-revealing incident at
the Super Bowl that has made the FCC more aggressive in cracking
down on indecent and obscene material on TV and radio airwaves and
in turn has prompted broadcasters to be more cautious in the
material they air.

Winfrey Crasher

A wedding is supposed to be a day where the bride and groom are the center of attention. Someone may want to explain that to Oprah Winfrey. The daytime diva crashed a few wedding receptions in Oklahoma over the weekend. All this, of course, to collect footage for her show. In her defense, she did bring gifts for the couples and no one seemed to mind. For me, this was tasteless. Under the guise of surprising others, she really just wanted to get material for her show. Does she really have to take away from what was supposed to be the most meaningful day in their relationships? Years from now, Oprah's visit will be about the only thing guests will remember about these weddings.

Supermodel Janice Dickinson is the best interview. Period. There were few topics that were off limits when she appeared on Howard Stern this morning. Here are some of her claims:
- She had an abusive childhood, saying her dad locked her in the trunk of his car for four hours.
- Madonna had awful body odor back in the day.
- Bill Cosby used to prey on women just out of rehab and wanted her to be a part of The Cosby show.
- She claims to have been with more than 1,000 people - men and women.
- She could not discuss several past sexual encounters with celebrities in her new book because publishers were afraid of lawsuits.

Kathy Griffin: Banned in Hollywood

Comedian Kathy Griffin telling Howard Stern that she has been banned from several talk shows. She's no longer allowed on Jay Leno because last time she appeared, the crew from her Bravo reality show followed her around. They captured her crying after Jay Leno made fun of her and Leno did not like the way he was portrayed. Griffin has appeared on The View several times, but is not as welcome because she makes fun of Star Jones in her comedy act. Griffin is also banned from the Ellen Degeneres show because she makes fun of celebrities too much. Producers told her it's a family show, plus they don't want her knocking potential celebrity guests. Ryan Seacrest is also not a fan of Griffin. She was appearing on his radio show when she brought up the pictures of him kissing Teri Hatcher. Seacrest didn't want to talk about it, so he hung up on her.

Some established comics who have not struck gold yet have made their way onto the show. Doug Benson, a contributor to VH1's Best Week Ever, is on to the next round after a successful try out in Los Angeles. Comedian Jimmy Pardo, who's appeared on several low-rated T.V. shows, showed up in Chicago and was shown the door. Two comedians, one with a lisp, another with cerebral palsy, have also made the cut. All this, makes season four of Last Comic Standing definitely worth checking out.
