INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

WeekEnder: January 28-February 3

THE BIG STORY
A cartoon puts the city of Boston into a panic. Lighted panels of Irr, a cartoon from a Cartoon Network show, were placed all over the city. Police were inundated with calls from people who thought the panels were bombs. Bomb squards spent Wednesday diffusing the panels, which turned out to be part of a marketing plan by Turner Television. Two men have been arrested for putting up the boards, while Turner has apologized to the city and plans to pay Beantown back for the money wasted on the marketing campaign gone wrong.

You Know It's Sweeps When....
It's February sweeps, which means it's time for all of your favorite shows to put on their most outrageous, audience-grabbing episodes to get ratings. Here's a look at the sweeps stunts we've seen in the first two days of sweeps:
  • Tyra Banks was photographed looking big in a bathing suit, so she wears the same bathing suit on her show. After giving a rambling speech about how it's okay to gain weight, Tyra dramatically tells her critics to, "Kiss my fat ass!"
  • Miss USA Tara Conner appears on the Today Show to give her first interview about the drinking and drug charges that almost cost her her crown.
  • Miss USA Tara Conner is grilled by Mark Steines on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider's Pat O'Brien.
  • Dr. Keith Ablow talks to a panel of strippers.
  • Anger boils over as Dr. Phil reunites a family with the man who killed their mother.

  • Changes At MyNetwork TV
The brass at the struggling MyNetworkTV have finally realized that poorly-acted telenovelas are not the key to big ratings. Or any ratings for that matter. So, they've announced a new spring schedule, which they hope will get at least one person interested in the new network. On Monday's, look for martial arts competition, International Fight League’s Total Impact. Telenovelas have been cut down to two nights a week. American Heiress and Saints and Sinners will air on Tuesday's and Wednesdays. Movies will fill the programming void on Thursday and Friday. Gotta say, if showing movies from 1993 is their best idea for bringing up the ratings, MNT is in trouble.

    Quick Hits
  • Dr. Keith Ablow has been cancelled because of poor ratings. A mix of new and old shows will air through September.
  • Viacom demands YouTube to pull some 100,000 clips of its programming off its Website.
  • NBC's Last Comic Standing will return this summer, along with CBS's Big Brother.
  • Farrah Fawcett's doctors have told her that she's cancer-free.
  • Actress/singer Brandy is being sued for $50 million by the family of a woman whose car she hit in a deadly accident.
  • Anne Heche's husband has filed from the divorce from the actress.

  • Song of the Week
    Mika - "Grace Kelly"
