MICHAEL GRIMM WINS AMERICA'S GOT TALENT
Thursday, September 16, 2010
The underdog prevailed on America's Got Talent. Singer Michael Grimm won the $1 million prize in last night's finale, besting favorite Jackie Evancho.
“Michael’s genuine, he’s sincere, he’s very talented, he got better with every round, and (on Tuesday night) he gave the performance of his life. He’ll have a huge career. I think he’s like a young Van Morrison,” judge Piers Morgan told People.com.
The 30-year-old was raised by his grandparents. They lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Grimm tells People that he plans to buy them a new house with his winnings.
Grimm says he thought Evancho had it in the bag.
“I was preparing my speech to leave. I couldn’t believe I heard my name," Grimm told People.com.
Evancho joined the season halfway through on a show featuring YouTube acts. The 10-year-old opera phenom blew the audience away with her voice.
