ELLEN DEGENERES LEAVES 'AMERICAN IDOL'
Thursday, July 29, 2010
First it was Paula. Then Simon. Now, Ellen Degeneres is leaving American Idol.
"A couple months ago, I let Fox and the `American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," Ellen said in a statement.
Ellen spent only one season judging the show. She was criticized because of her lack of musical knowledge. She was also rumored to not get along with Simon Cowell. She was also horrible on the show. Never knew what she was talking about. Good riddance.
This leaves two judge vacancies on the show. The New York Daily News is reporting that Jessica Simpson will take Simon Cowell's place. An official announcement is expected Monday. (Really, JS is the best they could come up with? Let's hope it's not true.)

"IDOL" FINALE RATINGS WAY DOWN
Thursday, May 27, 2010
A so-so season of American Idol ends on the decline. Last night, 24.2 million people tuned in for the finale, down 18% percent from last year. The finale numbers haven't seen so low since the show debuted in 2002.
The finale had it's highs and its lows. Just about all of the past Idol winners took to the stage to say goodbye to Simon Cowell. Paula Abdul was also back to say bye to her friend. The tribute was good, but it seems Simon is just fine with his departure. He didn't show much emotion for his final bow. Also, where were the parting words from his fellow judges?
Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Janet Jackson were among the many current acts that performed. Older acts like Chicago, Hall & Oates, Joe Cocker and Alice Cooper also performed, but came off looking tired. Also, why would producers have these oldtimers perform if they are trying to attract a young audience? It seems the talent could have been a lot hipper.

SIMON COWELL TO LEAVE "AMERICAN IDOL"
Monday, January 11, 2010
Simon Cowell will leave "American Idol" after this season. He is leaving the singing competition to be the executive producer and a judge on "X Factor." The show has been a fit overseas (it's where Susan Boyle was discovered) and is coming to Fox when 'Idol' goes on hiatus. TMZ reports that Cowell has already been courting Paula Abdul to be a judge on the show. Does this mean Fox with cancel "Idol" after this season? Stay tuned.
In other competition TV news, Howie Mandel has signed on to be a judge on "America's Got Talent." Last week, David Hasselhoff announced he's leaving the show to start up his own show.

AMERICAN IDOL CONTESTANT WORKED AT GAY STRIP CLUB
Tuesday, March 04, 2008
AMERICAN IDOL contestant David Hernandez once took it all off for men at a strip club in Phoenix, according to the Associated Press. The 24-year-old finalist appeared nude and performed lap dances for Dick's Carbaret's mostly male clients. The club's manager says he worked their steadily for three years until September 30, 2007. So far, FOX hasn't commented. In 2003, Frenchie Davis was kicked off "Idol" for having appeared on an adult website. Last year, Antonella Barba remained on the show even though racy photos of her showed up online. If you worked at a gay strip club for three years, wouldn't you think twice before putting yourself out there on the most popular show on TV? He had to have known this was going to get out.

Jordin Wins American Idol
Thursday, May 24, 2007
After a record 74 million votes were cast, Jordin Sparks was crowned the newest American Idol. The 17-year-old beat out 25-year-old beat boxer Blake Lewis for the title. The announcement came at the very end of a two-hour, star-studded finale, which featured performances by Bette Midler, Gwen Stefani, Smokey Robinson, and Gladys Knight. All of the former "Idol" winners (except Fantasia) were in house and performed for the packed house.
The show won the night with an 11.5 rating but was significantly down (19%) from last year's finale. This year's finale just did not seem as special as years past. The Idol contestants just weren't as good this year. Plus, the extravaganza "Idol Gives Back" show a couple weeks ago seemed to still some of the thunder from the finale. It's hard to top an over-the-top show a few weeks later.

Howard Stern Says: Vote For Sanjaya!
Thursday, March 15, 2007
American Idol may be screwed this season because Howard Stern is encouraging all of his listeners to vote for the worst contestant, Sanjaya Malakar. "We're going to make a real concerted effort to make sure that kid's the next American Idol," Stern said on his show today. Stern says it would be funny for the worst contestant to win, not to mention it would make Simon Cowell lose his mind. So far, it looks like Howard's campaign is working. The 17-year-old singer made it through to another week.
