2010 IN REVIEW: NOTABLE DEATHS



JD SALINGER - January 27
Everyone read his famous book, "The Catcher in the Rye," in high school. Salinger was 91.

LENA HORNE - May 9
Singer, actress and dancer. Who could forget her appearance on The Cosby Show? She was 92.

GARY COLEMAN - May 28 (above)
Best known for his role as Arnold Jackson on Diff'rent Strokes, he grew up to resent his childhood fame. Coleman died after suffering a brain hemorrhage at his home. He was 42.

DENNIS HOPPER - May 29
The "Easy Rider" star died after battling prostate cancer. He was 74.

RUE MCCLANAHAN - June 3
She played the fiesty Blanche on the hit sitcom, "The Golden Girls." Rue McClanahan was 76. Betty White is the only surviving cast member from the show.

MANUTE BOL - June 19
Former NBA player and humanitarian best known for being 7'6" tall. He died at 47.


ROBERT BYRD - June 28
The Democrat from West Virginia was the longest ever serving Senator. Byrd served the senate for more than 50 years. He died days after entering a Virginia hospital for heat exhaustion. Byrd was 92.

JIMMY DEAN - June 30
Country singer, actor and king of breakfast sausage. He was 81.

GEORGE STEINBRENNER - July 13
The longtime owner of the New York Yankees died after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 80 years old.

ROBERT SCHIMMEL - September 8
Comedian and Howard Stern show regular. He died following a car crash. Schimmel was 60 years old.

RICH CRONIN - September 8
The lead singer of the 90's band, LFO. He once dated actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. He suffered a stroke after a long battle with cancer. Rich Cronin was just 36 years old.

GREG GIRLADO - September 29
Comedian known for his was known for his great one-liners on Comedy Central's Roasts. Before his sudden death, Giraldo was a judge on NBC's "Last Comic Standing." Giraldo earned a law degree from Harvard Law School. He worked as a lawyer for one year before abandoning it all for a career in comedy. Giraldo died five days after an accidental prescription drug overdose. He was 44 years old.

TONY CURTIS - September 29
American movie star whose career spanned six decades. Curtis acted in various genres, but he never got an Academy Award. He was the father of Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis was 85 years old.

TOM BOSLEY - October 19
Tom Bosley was best known for playing the father, Howard Cunningham, on the hit sitcom, "Happy Days." He was 83 years old.

LESLIE NIELSON - November 28
The actor went from dramas to comedies, starring in hits like "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" movies. Leslie Nielson was 84.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS - December 7 (above)
The politician's wife died after a six-year battle with cancer. Elizabeth Edwards had prepared her family for her death. She even decorated the house for Christmas one last time. Despite his affair, John Edwards was with his wife when she passed. Elizabeth Edwards was 61.
