American Music Awards 2006
Tuesday, November 21, 2006
Britney Spears has made her very first very public appearance since she kicked K-Hole to the curb. She presented the first award on the American Music Awards tonight. She has lost a bunch of weight and is starting to look like the old Britney, but she was still chomping on gum. You can take the girl out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl. Lose the freakin' gum!
Some commentary on the big show:
- Nelly Furtado looked like she stole her wig from a drag queen.
- The Snow Patrol performance seemed to put everyone to sleep including the band.
- Billy Ray Cyrus had a lot of balls to compare himself to famous fathers Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
- Does Gwen Stefani need to have a high school band in all of her songs?
- Tenacious D is as bad and unfunny as it gets.
- Lionel Richie made a triumphant return to the AMA stage, singing his 80's hit "All Night Long."
- The Black Eyed Peas won three and appeared via satellite to accept their awards. Twice, they plugged their website. Is that really necessary?
- Carrie Underwood picked up her first AMA, proving some American Idols are still idols.
- Clay Aiken introduced John Mayer with Tori Spelling. As he spoke, Tori Spelling covered his mouth in reference to his feud with Kelly Ripa.
- Moment of the night: when host Jimmy Kimmel brought out a big baby carriage to show us his son, who turned out to be Flavor Flav.
