INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

2007 IN REVIEW: STAR SCANDALS

2007 was not a good year for many celebrities. Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse and Lindsay Lohan were in and out of rehab. A prominent politician was busted in a gay bathroom sex scandal, while the careers of an A-list movie star and a reality star took major hits after their private conversations were made public. The Daily Edition looks back at the biggest star scandals of 2007:

LARRY CRAIG BATHROOM SEX SCANDAL
This straight-laced Republican senator from Idaho was busted in a bathroom sex scandal in the summer, but all the dirty details weren't made public until months later. Craig entered a bathroom at a Minneaplois airport, but instead of doing his business, he allegedly tried to find someone to get his freak on! Craig allegedly stuck his hand and foot under the stall next to him to solicite sex. Too bad the guy was an undercover cop who arrested him at the scene. Craig later pled guilty to everything saying he just wanted to get the incident behind him. But when the story nwent public, Craig changed his mind and claimed he was innocent. He also claimed that he's not gay and just has a "wide stance" when he uses the restroom.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER RACIST PHONE CALL
Dwayne "The Dog" Chapman has starred on A&E's popular reality show, "Dog the Bounty Hunter" for years. He's known for busting bad guys, but this year, Dog became the bad guy when he dropped several N-bombs during what was supposed to be a private conversation with his son. Too bad his kid was taping the whole thing. He sold the tape to the Inquirer and down went the Dog's career. A&E stopped production on his show, while Dog went on Larry King to beg for forgiveness. A tearful Dog said he'd do anything to make it right with African Americans, including being buried amongst slaves for iternity.

ALEC BALDWIN THREATENS HIS DAUGHTER
In one of the most stomach-turning stories of the year, actor Alec Baldwin was caught threatening his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. After Ireland didn't pick up on his scheduled phone call, Baldwin went loco on her voicemail. He screamed, calling his own kid a "thoughtless little pig" and saying things like, "Once again, I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone" and "you have insulted me for the last time." He also threatened to "straighten" her "ass out." The tapes were leaked to TMZ which broke the story. A judge was so alarmed by them that he temporarily banned Baldwin from seeing his Ireland.

BRITNEY SPEARS LOSES HER MIND
How the mighty have fallen...hard. This was the worst possible year for pop princess Britney Spears. It all started when she shaved her head in February. She also went after some paparazzi with an umbrella. Those unstable acts were followed by several trips to rehab. Her legal battle with ex Kevin Federline also continued. Britney always skipped out on court dates and was ordered to stay away from drugs an alcohol. When she failed to comply, she lost custody to Kevin in October. Despite all the drama, Britney staged a career comeback, releasing her first album in years. Britney opened up the VMA's with her single, "Gimme More," and was jeered for dancing like a robot that needed its batteries charged. The drama for Britney continued through the end of the year. In December, Britney's 16-year-old sister, Jamie-Lynn, announced she was pregnant.

PARIS HILTON SENT TO JAIL
The media circus of all media circuses. Celebutard Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail for drunk driving in May. Hilton checked herself into jail in June, but the L.A. County Sherriff got her out only days later. Her early release sparked outrage with many who said she was getting special treatment because she's a celebrity. The next morning, an angry judge ordered her back to court and ordered hr back to jail to serve the remainder of her time. (The paparazzi chased her on the ground and choppers were high above as she was brought to court and then to jail.) When she was released, Hilton appeared on Larry King saying that being locked up changed her. Months later, she appeared on David Letterman. She got annoyed with the host, who wouldn't stop asking her about her time in the slammer.

MICHAEL VICK DOG-FIGHTING SCANDAL
He was one of the biggest football stars in the NFL, but this year Michael Vick was suspended for his role in an illegal dog-fighting ring. Vick and three other men were charged in July for operating the dog-fighting venture called "Bad Newz Kennels." After months of boycotts by angry fans, Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison in December.

DON IMUS LOSES HIS JOB OVER A RACIST RANT
Don Imus stuck his foot in his mush mouth this year when he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hoes" on his radio show. The comment sparked outrage in the black community, which demanded he be fired. First, he lost his TV show on MSNBC. Then, his radio show was cancelled. Imus met with the woman and apologized for his comments. They accepted his apology and Imus went into hiding for months. Surprisingly, Imus returned to radio in December. He was picked up by WABC in New York, which is again syndicating his show across the country. Imus now has two African American co-hosts on his show.

ROSIE O'DONNELL LEAVES "THE VIEW"
Rosie O'Donnell never really fit it on "The View" and her stay wasn't long. After getting into a very public fight with Donald Trump and battling it out with conservative co-host Elisabeth Haselbeck, O'Donnell left the show about a month before she was supposed to. The show went on, with Whoopi Goldberg replacing her in September.

ELLEN DEGENERES' PUPPY DOG TEARS
You would have thought her mother was murdered by the way she was crying on her show. But no, her tears were all over a dog named Iggy. Ellen gave the dog to family because it didn't get along with her other animals. But the pooch was taken back by the adoption agency because Ellen found a new home for the dog without their consent. After they took the dog, Ellen cried and cried on her show, begging the agency to give the dog back to the family. It never happened.
