INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

My Network TV Fall Schedule

Struggling new network MyNetworkTV is ditching the telenovelas and going reality for the fall. The lineup includes four reality shows, live beach volleyball and mixed martial arts fighting, and a bunch of specials produced by Access Hollywood.

On Mondays, IFL Battleground returns with repeats airing every Saturday. Tuesdays will feature FOX Reality show The Academy and a new unscripted series, Jail, from the creator and executive producer of COPS. Jail will follow inmates from their initial booking through their first moments behind bars. (This show may actually be good!) With the two Wednesday night soaps going off the air, new series Divorce Wars and a show based on one-time network series Meet My Folks will air. Thursdays and Fridays will still be movie nights on MNTV. Rocky I-IV, Snatch, U.S. Marshals and The Amityville Horror are all set to air in the fall.

Fire Forces "Regis & Kelly" To Relocate

A fire at New York's WABC-TV has forced Regis & Kelly to broadcast from the Who Wants to be a Millionaire studio all week. The fire knocked ABC's flagship station off the air Saturday night. It apparently started after a light burst and set a curtain on fire. The fire was put out in a couple hours, but the facility sustained smoke and water damage, which is why Regis & Kelly have been forced to relocate. They could have aired repeats all week, but executive porducer Michael Gelman says he didn't want to cancel a bunch of great bookings (American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was on today.) Over the weekend, the Millionaire set was stripped and outfitted with everything from a rear-screen projection of Live's terrace backdrop to lights that weren't finished until hours before the show this morning.

Charles Nelson Reilly Dies

Sad news for fans of "Match Game." Charles Nelson Reilly has died. Reilly was a fixture on "Match Game" and "Hollywood Squares" during the 70s. He also acted on Broadway and won a Tony award for his role in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Reilly's openly gay television persona was ahead of its time. He recalled a network executive telling him "they don't let queers on television."

Charles Nelson Reilly died Sunday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia. He was 76 years old.

    Artie Leaving Howard Stern?

Artie Lange says he's considering leaving the Howard Stern show. "I need help," Lange said on Sirius Satellite radio Thursday morning. Artie said he's thinking about leaving the show in January and taking a six-month break in Europe to get this thoughts in order. Artie says a recent trip to the doctor really woke him up, plus the hours he works are burning him out. So much so, that he's thinking about going to rehab.

Artie's life has taken a turn for the worse in recent months. He broke up with his longime girlfriend and now weighs more than 300 pounds. Of course, all this has made him a target of jokes on the Stern show, something that Artie says hurts him. "The only this that keeps me from total madness is the fact that I'm a a part of... a great, legendary show," Artie said. Howard told Artie that he should see a really good therapist before making such a hasty decision. "You have the full support of me. No matter what you decide to do," Stern said.

Artie brings so much to the Howard Stern show. Let's hope he gets it together and stays on for a long time to come.

    Jordin Wins American Idol

After a record 74 million votes were cast, Jordin Sparks was crowned the newest American Idol. The 17-year-old beat out 25-year-old beat boxer Blake Lewis for the title. The announcement came at the very end of a two-hour, star-studded finale, which featured performances by Bette Midler, Gwen Stefani, Smokey Robinson, and Gladys Knight. All of the former "Idol" winners (except Fantasia) were in house and performed for the packed house.

The show won the night with an 11.5 rating but was significantly down (19%) from last year's finale. This year's finale just did not seem as special as years past. The Idol contestants just weren't as good this year. Plus, the extravaganza "Idol Gives Back" show a couple weeks ago seemed to still some of the thunder from the finale. It's hard to top an over-the-top show a few weeks later.

Subway Hero Loses on "Deal or No Deal"

The New York subway hero, Wesley Autrey, was given a chance to win $1 million on NBC's "Deal or No Deal" tonight. Autrey got the attention of the nation earlier this year when he jumped in front of a speeding subway to save a stranger who had a medical attack.

The whole crowd was rooting for Autrey tonight, who kept the million dollars on the board for most of the show. It was down to two cases and his, when he was offered $305,000. Instead of taking the big money, Autrey kept playing. The next case he opened turned out to be the million dollars. Autrey went home with a tiny $25 dollars, but he was also surprised with a brand new car for his heroism.

Opie & Anthony Suspended From XM

The Don Imus backlash continues. XM's Opie & Anthony have been suspended for 30 days by the satellite network for controversial comments they made on live radio. The hosts were suspended today, a week after they did a bit where they made sexual jokes about Laura Bush, Queen Elizabeth and Condoleezza Rice. On May 9, Opie and Anthony, they aired a segment with a man they call Homeless Charlie. As the names of Rice, Bush and the queen came up, Charlie said in vulgar terms that he would like to have sex with each of them. Opie and Anthony have apologized for the bit, but say they should not be under the same scrutiny as shows airing on terrestrial radio. While Opie & Anthony are still broadcast on terrestrial radio, the controversial skit was only broadcast on satellite radio.

    No Smoking In The Movies

If you ever wonder why other countries laugh at us, here's one good reason. More needless censorship. Kids are not going smoke butts just because they see some overpaid actor doing it.

Smoking will be a bigger factor in determining film ratings, the Motion Picture Association of America said Thursday, but critics said the move does not go far enough to discourage teens from taking up the habit.

MPAA Chairman Dan Glickman said his group's ratings board, which previously had considered underage smoking in assigning film ratings, now will take into account smoking by adults, as well.
That adds smoking to a list of such factors as sex, violence and language in determining the MPAA's G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 ratings.

Film raters will consider the pervasiveness of tobacco use, whether it glamorizes smoking and the context in which smoking appears, as in movies set in the past when smoking was more common. Some critics of Hollywood's depictions of tobacco in films have urged that movies that show smoking be assigned an R rating, which would restrict those younger than 17 from seeing them.

"I'm glad it's finally an issue they're taking up, but what they're proposing does not go far enough and is not going to make a difference," said Kori Titus, spokeswoman for Breathe California, which opposes film images of tobacco use that might encourage young people to start smoking.

Glickman said a mandatory R rating for smoking would not "further the specific goal of providing information to parents on this issue." (Courtesy: Associated Press)

    Jelly Belly Cologne

If you've ever wanted to walk around smelling like a hot fudge sundae all day, then there's a new cologne for you! Jelly Belly is releasing some new fragrances that smell like combinations of their most popular jelly beans. This is no joke! There's Blueberry Muffin, Sugar & Spice, Hot Fudge Sundae, Mango Pineapple Salsa, Fruit Salad and Wild Blackberry Peach Cobbler. They sent some samples to the station the other day and I sprayed the Blueberry Muffin into the air and, God, is it strong. I had to walk away for a few minutes as a Dunkin Donuts-like smell filled the air around my desk. I'm not quite sure who would want to walk around smelling like a fruity jelly bean all day, so I'm guessing the market for this is children. By the way, if you're not into the lotion, these Jelly Belly fragrances are also available in lotion and shower gel.

CBS Evening News Gets Lowest Ratings Since 1987!

Things are starting to look downright dismal for Katie Couric. Last week, the "CBS Evening News" averaged only 6.05 million viewers. This was the lowest rated audience since 1987! Yes, friends, that would be 20 years ago! No doubt, this was a terrible way to start out the very important May sweeps. Time to give Katie her walking papers. For what they are paying her, she ain't worth it.
