Gov. Mark Sanford Cheats on Wife
After being missing for several days, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford resurfaced. His staff claimed he was out of the country hiking the Appalachian Trail. But then, Sanford fessed up to cheating on his wife with a woman in Argentina. Sanford and his wife tried to repair their relationship to no avail. In December, Mrs. Sanford announced that she's filing for divorce.
Mackenzie Phillips Claims Incest
Mackenzie Phillips shocked the world when she appeared on "Oprah" to talk about her new book. She claimed that her father, legendary Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips, had sex with her numerous times. She said the sexual relationship was often fueled by drugs and lasted 10 years.
Balloon Boy
The whole world stopped for a few minutes to watch a homemade balloon fly through the air. There were claims that a little boy was inside. Of course, when it landed, it was empty. The boy was safe inside his parents house the whole time. Richard and Mayumi Heene admitted they concocted the story so they would become reality TV stars. They were both sentenced to jail time for the scheme in December.
Adam Lambert AMA Performance
The American Idol runner-up shocked the world with his performance on the American Music Awards. The openly gay singer made out with a male keyboard player and simulated oral sex with a dancer. ABC was flooded with complaints and they even canceled his appearance on Good Morning America.
The White House Crashers
Security at the White House is supposed to be air tight, but somehow Tareq and Michaele Salahi were able to crash the president's first state dinner. Turns out, the couple had been filiming scenes for Bravo's "Real Housewives" series. They claimed the whole thing was a big misunderstanding and that they were invited. They later refused to testify before a House Homeland Security Committee.
