INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

2007 IN REVIEW: MUST SEE VIDEO

The Internet gave plenty of people their 15 minutes of fame this year. The most annoying viral video star of the year was Chris Crocker. This gender-bender cried and cried over Britney Spears, explaiming, "Leave Britney alone!" There was also "Obama Girl," a music video about a girl who has a crush on presidential candidate Barack Obama. And who could forget Will Ferrell's landlord skits on funnyordie.com? The Daily Edition's pick for the best online video of the year is from Britain's Got Talent. Paul Potts was a cell phone salesman who looked like he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. But he blew away the audience and Simon Cowell with an unforgettable opera song that'll give anyone goose bumps. Potts went on to win the show. Here's a look at his audition. It will take your breath away...

2007 IN REVIEW: MUSIC

AMERICAN IDOL: SUCCESS STORIES
Former American Idol contestants dominated the airwaves. Chris Daughtry didn't even win the show, but the rocker struck it big with 2007's Daughtry. The album was Billboard's best-selling album of 2007. Fellow contestant Carrie Underwood also hitting it big in '07 with her album and the song "Before He Cheats," an anthem for girls who've been done wrong. Elliott Yamin also scored a hit single with the break-up song Wait For You this year.

AMERICAN IDOL: FAILURES
Things didn't go so well for American Idol winner and chart-topper Kelly Clarkson. Her third album, My December, only spawned one radio hit, Never Again, which was no where near as good as tracks from her previous albums. This year's Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, is also not fairing so well. Her debut album came in at number ten on Billboard, the lowest debut ever for an American Idol winner. Let's not forget about last season's runner-up, Katherine McPhee, whose debut album debuted at number two on Billboard, but quickly fizzled. Her single, "Over It," never really went as far as intended.

THE RISE OF TIMBALAND
He's been in the music biz forever, producing hit tracks for arists like Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. But this year, Timbaland struck gold with his own album, Timbaland Presents Shock Value. The rapper paired up with stars like Timberlake and Furtado and unknown artists like Keri Hilson and One Republic for a string of chart-topping singles.

LIVE EARTH CONCERTS
Live Earth was a series of worldwide concerts organized by Al Gore to fight climate change. The concerts, on 7/7/07, brought together more than 150 musical acts at 11 locations. The concerts were broadcast on television, radio and online. Duran Duran, Kanye West, Beastie Boys, KT Tunstall, Dave Matthews Band, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson were amoung the artists who took to the stage for the event.

MUSICAL NOTES
- The Dixie Chicks swept the Grammy Awards, taking home five awards.
- Kanye West and 50 Cent battled in out when both of their albums dropped on September 11. Kanye easily sold more copies than 50, whose album failed to meet expectations.
- Kanye West's mother, Donda, died after having plastic surgery.
- Britney Spears bombed during a performance at the MTV VMA's. She also lost her hair, her kids and her mind. Despite all that, her album got decent reviews and produced a hit single, "Gimme More."
- Radiohead released their new album online telling fans they could pay whatever they wanted for it.
- Hannah Montana aka Miley Cyrus cast a spell on the tween audience, selling out concerts all over the country.
- Amy Winehouse was praised for her unique sound and panned for her wild behavior.
- Sirius and XM Radio spent the year trying to merge, but the powers that be in Washington aren't so sure it's such a good idea.
- The Police, Genesis, Van Halen, The Spice Girls and Led Zeppelin reunited in 2007.

2007 IN REVIEW: MEMORABLE QUOTES

"I personally believe the U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh...people out there in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and...I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our..." - Miss Teen South Carolina Caitlin Upton in the Miss Teen USA pageant. This was her response to the question, "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

"Don't tase me, bro!" - University of Florida student Andrew Meyer to police before he was tased for causing a disturbance at a John Kerry forum.

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country." - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, during a speaking engagement at Columbia University in New York

"That's some nappy-headed hos there." - radio host Don Imus, referring to the Rutgers University women's basketball team

"(I have) a wide stance when going to the bathroom." - Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig, explaining why his foot touched the foot of an undercover police officer in an airport men's room

"I am not gay. I never have been gay." - Larry Craig in a presser after being busted in the bathroom

"I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history." - Former President Jimmy Carter, referring to the Bush Administration in an interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper

“We are only taking questions on hair.” - Peter Berdovsky, one of the two men arrested in Boston for planting electronic ads that were mistaken for bombs all over the city. After Berdovsky and his accomplice appeared in court, they addressed the media, but refused to answer any questions about the incident. Instead, they would only discuss 1970's hairstyles. It pissed off the media and Boston's Mayor Menino, but this was by the most entertaining presser of 2007.

2007 IN REVIEW: STAR SCANDALS

2007 was not a good year for many celebrities. Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse and Lindsay Lohan were in and out of rehab. A prominent politician was busted in a gay bathroom sex scandal, while the careers of an A-list movie star and a reality star took major hits after their private conversations were made public. The Daily Edition looks back at the biggest star scandals of 2007:

LARRY CRAIG BATHROOM SEX SCANDAL
This straight-laced Republican senator from Idaho was busted in a bathroom sex scandal in the summer, but all the dirty details weren't made public until months later. Craig entered a bathroom at a Minneaplois airport, but instead of doing his business, he allegedly tried to find someone to get his freak on! Craig allegedly stuck his hand and foot under the stall next to him to solicite sex. Too bad the guy was an undercover cop who arrested him at the scene. Craig later pled guilty to everything saying he just wanted to get the incident behind him. But when the story nwent public, Craig changed his mind and claimed he was innocent. He also claimed that he's not gay and just has a "wide stance" when he uses the restroom.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER RACIST PHONE CALL
Dwayne "The Dog" Chapman has starred on A&E's popular reality show, "Dog the Bounty Hunter" for years. He's known for busting bad guys, but this year, Dog became the bad guy when he dropped several N-bombs during what was supposed to be a private conversation with his son. Too bad his kid was taping the whole thing. He sold the tape to the Inquirer and down went the Dog's career. A&E stopped production on his show, while Dog went on Larry King to beg for forgiveness. A tearful Dog said he'd do anything to make it right with African Americans, including being buried amongst slaves for iternity.

ALEC BALDWIN THREATENS HIS DAUGHTER
In one of the most stomach-turning stories of the year, actor Alec Baldwin was caught threatening his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. After Ireland didn't pick up on his scheduled phone call, Baldwin went loco on her voicemail. He screamed, calling his own kid a "thoughtless little pig" and saying things like, "Once again, I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone" and "you have insulted me for the last time." He also threatened to "straighten" her "ass out." The tapes were leaked to TMZ which broke the story. A judge was so alarmed by them that he temporarily banned Baldwin from seeing his Ireland.

BRITNEY SPEARS LOSES HER MIND
How the mighty have fallen...hard. This was the worst possible year for pop princess Britney Spears. It all started when she shaved her head in February. She also went after some paparazzi with an umbrella. Those unstable acts were followed by several trips to rehab. Her legal battle with ex Kevin Federline also continued. Britney always skipped out on court dates and was ordered to stay away from drugs an alcohol. When she failed to comply, she lost custody to Kevin in October. Despite all the drama, Britney staged a career comeback, releasing her first album in years. Britney opened up the VMA's with her single, "Gimme More," and was jeered for dancing like a robot that needed its batteries charged. The drama for Britney continued through the end of the year. In December, Britney's 16-year-old sister, Jamie-Lynn, announced she was pregnant.

PARIS HILTON SENT TO JAIL
The media circus of all media circuses. Celebutard Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail for drunk driving in May. Hilton checked herself into jail in June, but the L.A. County Sherriff got her out only days later. Her early release sparked outrage with many who said she was getting special treatment because she's a celebrity. The next morning, an angry judge ordered her back to court and ordered hr back to jail to serve the remainder of her time. (The paparazzi chased her on the ground and choppers were high above as she was brought to court and then to jail.) When she was released, Hilton appeared on Larry King saying that being locked up changed her. Months later, she appeared on David Letterman. She got annoyed with the host, who wouldn't stop asking her about her time in the slammer.

MICHAEL VICK DOG-FIGHTING SCANDAL
He was one of the biggest football stars in the NFL, but this year Michael Vick was suspended for his role in an illegal dog-fighting ring. Vick and three other men were charged in July for operating the dog-fighting venture called "Bad Newz Kennels." After months of boycotts by angry fans, Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison in December.

DON IMUS LOSES HIS JOB OVER A RACIST RANT
Don Imus stuck his foot in his mush mouth this year when he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hoes" on his radio show. The comment sparked outrage in the black community, which demanded he be fired. First, he lost his TV show on MSNBC. Then, his radio show was cancelled. Imus met with the woman and apologized for his comments. They accepted his apology and Imus went into hiding for months. Surprisingly, Imus returned to radio in December. He was picked up by WABC in New York, which is again syndicating his show across the country. Imus now has two African American co-hosts on his show.

ROSIE O'DONNELL LEAVES "THE VIEW"
Rosie O'Donnell never really fit it on "The View" and her stay wasn't long. After getting into a very public fight with Donald Trump and battling it out with conservative co-host Elisabeth Haselbeck, O'Donnell left the show about a month before she was supposed to. The show went on, with Whoopi Goldberg replacing her in September.

ELLEN DEGENERES' PUPPY DOG TEARS
You would have thought her mother was murdered by the way she was crying on her show. But no, her tears were all over a dog named Iggy. Ellen gave the dog to family because it didn't get along with her other animals. But the pooch was taken back by the adoption agency because Ellen found a new home for the dog without their consent. After they took the dog, Ellen cried and cried on her show, begging the agency to give the dog back to the family. It never happened.

MUST SEE VIDEO: WLS CAR CRASH

MUST SEE VIDEO

Incredible video from a live newscast at WLS in Chicago. An anchor was tossing to a liveshot on Sunday night when a mini-van crashed right into the studio! WLS has a ground level studio, so people passing by can look in and drivers like this dude can drive in. The best part of this video is when the anchor screams and the reporter just keeps on going as if nothing happened. No one was hurt in the accident. The driver has been charged with felony damage to property.

AP'S TOP 10 NEWS STORIES OF 2007

The Associated Press is out with their annual list of the year's top stories. Here are the big stories that made the cut:
1. VIRGINIA TECH KILLINGS: Seung-Hui Cho, 23, who had avoided court-ordered mental health treatment despite a history of psychiatric problems, killed two fellow students in a dormitory on April 16, detoured to mail a hate-filled video of himself to NBC News, then shot dead 30 students and professors in a classroom building before killing himself. It was the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

2. MORTGAGE CRISIS: A record-setting wave of mortgage foreclosures, coupled with a steep slump in the housing market, buffeted financial markets, caused multibillion-dollar losses at major banks and investment firms, and became an issue in the presidential campaign.

3. IRAQ WAR: The "surge" that sent more U.S. troops to Iraq was credited with helping reduce the overall level of violence. But thousands of Iraqis and hundreds of U.S. personnel were killed nonetheless during the year, and Iraqi political leaders struggled to make meaningful progress toward national reconciliation.

4. OIL PRICES: Oil prices soared to record highs, at one point reaching nearly $100 a barrel. The high prices, which burdened motorists and owners of oil-heated homes, nudged Congress to pass an energy bill that ordered an increase in motor vehicles' fuel efficiency.

5. CHINESE EXPORTS: An array of Chinese exports were recalled, ranging from toys with lead paint to defective tires to tainted toothpaste and food. Despite the high-profile problems, America's trade deficit with China was running at record-high levels.

6. GLOBAL WARMING: Warnings about the consequences of global warming gained intensity with new reports from scientific panels and a Nobel Prize to Al Gore for his environmental crusading that included the film "An Inconvenient Truth." Across the U.S., many state governments sought to cap emissions blamed for global warming.

7. BRIDGE COLLAPSE: An Interstate 35 bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed during the evening rush hour on Aug. 1, killing 13 people and injuring about 100. The disaster fueled concern about possible structural flaws in other bridges nationwide.

8. PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN: In a yearlong drama with shifting subplots, large fields in both major parties battled for support ahead of the caucuses and primaries that will decide the 2008 presidential nominees. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama led among the Democrats; some polls showed five Republicans with double-digit support.

9. IMMIGRATION DEBATE: A compromise immigration plan, backed by President Bush and Democratic leaders, collapsed in Congress due to Republican opposition. The plan would have enabled millions of illegal immigrants to move toward citizenship, while also bolstering border security. The issues remained alive in the presidential campaign.

10. IRAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM: Worried that the ultimate goal is a nuclear arsenal, the United States and other countries pressed Iran to halt uranium enrichment. Iran said it never had a weapons program. A U.S. intelligence report concluded there was such an effort, but it stopped in 2003.

Just missing the Top 10 were the Southern California wildfires and the resignation of Alberto Gonzales as attorney general.

STARBUCKS CHEER CHAIN

Looking for a heart-warming story this holiday season? Look no further:

One woman's act of kindness to a fellow Starbucks customer resulted in more than 1,000 others spreading some Christmas cheer.

It all started last Wednesday when a woman at a Marysville, Washington Starbucks paid for the person in line behind her. Her good deed set off a chain of 1,013 customers paying for the next person's drink. Many of the customers also threw in an extra $10 or $20 which will be donated to the coffee giant's Chistmas toy drive.

The long run of kindness finally ended at 6:20 AM on Friday. So, who's the cheap bastard who decided to end this cheer chain?

This isn't the first time something like this has happened at a Starbucks. Last week in Pampano Beach, Florida, one man decided that instead of getting mad at the guy honking behind him, he'd buy him a latte.

BRITNEY SPEARS' SISTER IS PREGNANT!!!

File this under pathetic. Britney Spears' 16-year-old sister, Jamie-Lynn, tells OK! Magazine that she is pregnant. She's 12 weeks along and the father is her "longtime" boyfriend. She's a junior in high school.

"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," Jamie-Lynn told OK!. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

"I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious," her mother, Lynne Spears, told OK!. "She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

Once again, multi-millionaires acting like clueless white trash. Not to mention, a great example for teenager's everywhere who are already cranking out babies they can't support left and right.

LATE-NIGHT TALK SHOWS TO RETURN IN JANUARY?

Late-night talk shows that have been in the dark because of the writers strike could be back on the air in January. David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel have been airing repeats since the strike started on November 5th. All of the hosts have refused to cross the picket line and ratings have taken a huge dive. Daily Variety is reporting that Leno and Conan are eyeing a return in early January, even if the strike isn't settled by then. Variety is also reporting that Kimmel may also be close to returning. One thing to keep in mind: if the hosts return, it'll anger the union, so they may still opt to stick out and stay home.

HOWARD STERN'S CHRISTMAS

Howard Stern's crew exchanged Christmas gifts this morning. Instead of buying gifts for everyone, each person on the staff bought one gift for someone else. Howard got to buy for an intern named Lori and she got hooked up big time. Howard bought the college student a Marc Jacobs handbag (worth more than $1,000) and a $1,000 gift card to Bloomingdale's. Robin bought Howard his gifts, a letter opener and a silver magnifying glass. Robin's gift wasn't so nice. A Stern staffer named Ryan was her Secret Santa. He bought her a wooden windchime, which everyone made fun of. Robin said she'll probably never use it, so she traded it to Fred, who had received a hooded sweatshirt. Like Howard, Fred also gave his present to an intern who he hooked up with $500 cash. Artie got tickets to a Yankees dinner from another staffer. While Artie gave Benji a few presents, including an i-Phone. Gary got a gift certificate to The Sharper Image from J.D.

Howard Stern will be off the next two weeks for Christmas break, but be sure to tune in this Monday for the "History of Howard Stern." This special that's been a year in the making starts from Howards beginnings in radio all the way until now.
