INFOTAINMENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF EARTH SINCE 2006

Bob Barker is Retiring

Sad news for fans of the "The Price Is Right." Bob Barker is planning to retire at the end of this season. Barker tells the Associated Press that his last show will air June 7, 2007 after 35 years hosting the game show. Barker jokes that he wants to step down while he's "still young." He turns 83 on December 12th. Barker admits he'll miss the show and is "frightened by the thought of getting up in the morning and there will be no more shows." A search for a new host has been going on for two or three years. By the time he retires, Barker will have been appearing on television for half a century and he says he's "enjoyed every moment."

Kerry Takes on the Troops

Former presidential candidate John Kerry causing the controversy of the week by insinuating that U.S. troops are not educated. Kerry spoke to a group of student in California yesterday, telling them to get an education or you'll get stuck in Iraq. "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," Kerry said. Kerry says his comment was aimed at President Bush and is not apologizing. "I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and of his broken policy," he later said at a news conference in Seattle.

Of course, the Republicans are furious. President Bush spoke out against Kerry's comments at a rally today. "Our troops did not enlist because they did not study hard in school or do their homework," Bush said. "The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots."

LETTERMAN VS. O'REILLY: ROUND TWO
More fireworks as Bill O'Reilly appeared on David Letterman again last night. Earlier in the year, Letterman made headlines when he sharply criticized O'Reilly's stance on Iraq on his show. It was more of the same last night as Letterman went after the FOX News host from the moment he sat down. O'Reilly tried to break bread with Letterman by coming out with a toy sword and shield. But Letterman didn't want to play, saying: " "You guys over there at Fox and guys like Rush Limbaugh, you guys know it's all just a goof, right? You're just horsing around. You're doing it 'cause you know it'll be entertaining?"

Things got heated again later when the topic of Iraq came up again. "It isn't so black and white, Dave -- it isn't, 'We're a bad country. Bush is an evil liar.' That's not true," O'Reilly said. Letterman responds: "I didn't say he was an evil liar. You're putting words in my mouth, just the way you put artificial facts in your head!"

O'Reilly appeared on "Oprah" earlier in the day. It's too bad Letterman couldn't have had the same type of intelligent conversation with O'Reilly as Oprah did.

Going To Hell

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are going to hell. The above cartoon of the deceased Crocodile Hunter was featured in this week's episode of "South Park." And you can see what's coming out of his bloody chest. The epsiode was about Satan preparing a Halloween party in which he invited dozens of dead celebrities. Comedy Central is defending the episode saying, "It (South Park) has offended people in the past and probably will again. Regular watchers would not be shocked."

Not Lovin' It

An assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys is suing his local McDonald's after his wife and live-in babysitter said they found a dead rat in their salad. Todd Haley says the two had already started eating the salad when they found the rodent mixed in with their greens. The rat was found lying on its back with its mouth wide open. Haley is now suing the Texas golden arches for $1.7 million dollars. The suit claims the women became violently ill and had long-lasting physical injuries. It also alleges that McDonald's did not follow through on promises to make things right.

Day Two: Free Howard Stern

Day two of Howard Stern's free online trial began with Howard reading emails from listeners around the world who have rediscovered the show thanks to the Internet streaming. Howard also mentioned that Pete Townshend's walk out made the New York Post and The Daily News. The big celebrity guests of the day were Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon admitted she's had lots of plastic surgery to her face and has always struggled with her weight.

The big event of the show: the Gary Roast. Longtime Stern show contributor Jackie the Jokeman Martling returned to the show just to slam Ba Ba Boey. Comedians Lisa Lampanelli and Greg Fitzsimmons also took part in the roast, which many said was the show's best roast yet.

Day One: Free Howard Stern

Howard Stern is going all out for the free two-day internet trial of Sirius Satellite Radio. Today's big show began with an appearance by Danny Bonaduce. The reality star discussed his show, "Breaking Bonaduce," saying he hates the show's therapist. He later shocked everyone in the room when he put a lit cigarette out on his tongue. Amazingly, Bonaduce said it didn't hurt. Next, The Simpson's co-creator Sam Simon debuted his radio sitcom, "The Bitter Half," which features the cast of the Stern show.

The big moment of the show came when The Who's guitarist, Pete Townshend, walked off the show. Howard was scheduled to interview him live from a recording studio in London, but Townshend got upset when the crew began talking about his child porn allegations. Howard said he wished Townshend would come back because he agreed to perform two songs. Fortunately, it wasn't a total loss. Howard got to speak with The Who founder and frontman Roger Daltrey, who happened to be hanging out with Townshend in the London studio. After much convincing, Daltrey sang for them.

Limbaugh: Fox Faked It

Rush Limbaugh is coming under fire for a radio rant where he accused Michael J. Fox of faking the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Fox appeared in a 30-second spot, swaying uncontrollably as he urged Missiouri voters to support stem cell research. While most people would feel bad for the beloved actor, Limbaugh thought it was all a fraud. "In this commercial, he is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He is moving all around and shaking. And it's purely an act," Limbaugh said on his radio show. The Republican blowhard later apologized after listeners told him Fox was not acting.

TAG: BANNED AT TWO MASSACHUSETTS SCHOOLS
Two Massachusetts schools have banned the game of tag on their playgrounds. School officials at an Attleboro elementary school and a Framingham school say the game is just too dangerous for children. God forbid: kids may get hurt doing what kids are supposed to do! Even more priceless: the Framingham school says kids CAN play tag, they just can't touch each other! How the hell do you play tag without touching each other? How many kids have suffered life-long injuries from a game of tag? ZERO! Just another sad case of parents thinking they know what's best for this generation of kids. It would be funny if it wasn't so sickening.
Update: After a public outcry, officials at the Attleboro school decided to let kids play tag.

QUICK HITS
  • NBC Universal is restructuring in response to its primetime troubles. Some 700 layoffs are expected.
  • The "Flavor of Love 2" finale was the highest rated show in the history of VH1, with 7.5 million people tuning in.
  • The population of the United States hit 300,000,000 last Tuesday.
  • Former ABC News co-anchor Bob Woodward is working on a special to air next spring. It will focus on his recovery since he was injured by a roadside bomb in Baghdad last January.
  • The divorce of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills gets nastier. British tabloids say he stabbed her with a wine glass, did not want her to breastfeed their baby daughter and drank and used drugs. McCartney's lawyers say the allegations are rubbish.
  • Does anyone care that Madonna adopted an African baby? Enough coverage of this. Talk about a publicity stunt. Madonna should have disappeared after the '80's. She's a snooze who couldn't sing her way out of a paper bag.
  • Ratings for new daytime shows are less than encouraging. Rachael Ray is leading the pack, but only with modest numbers. Greg Behrendt, Dr. Keith Ablow, Megan Mullally and Judge Maria Lopez all have such low ratings that they will more than likely be cancelled.
  • Miss listening to Howard Stern? The Stern show will be available for FREE this Wednesday and Thursday (Oct. 25/26) through the Sirius Satellite Radio website.

Restaurant Racism?

Some people just need to take a few deep breaths and lighten up. Chris Rock's mother, Rose, is one of those people. She's enlisted the help of Al Sharpton to announce she may be suing Cracker Barrel restaurants. Rock claims the restaurant sat her and her daughter down back in May and didn't serve her for a half-hour. The restaurant says it was a misunderstanding, but Rock thinks it's racism. Again, the alleged incident happened back in May, yet they are filing suit NOW, five months later! Why the wait? And why is this racism? I'm a white guy who has had his fair share of waits at restaurants. If I was to file a lawsuit for everytime I had a long wait at a restaurant, many restaurants would be out of business. Some restaurants are just plain busy or the staff is awful. Bad service does not mean you're a victim of racism. Ms. Rock, your son is a brilliant comedian, but with all due respect, you need to lighten up.

John Mark Karr Speaks Out

John Mark Karr spoke out in a very shady interview today. Last summer, he said he was there when Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered. His DNA did not match DNA found at the crime scene, so Karr was let go.

Today, he appeared in a highly editted interview with Dr. Keith Ablow. Karr and his lawyer sharply criticized the show before the interview even aired. They claimed producers got him drunk off several glasses of wine, so he didn't know what he was saying. Dr. Keith denies that. Karr's lawyer also claims the show taped him without his knowledge. Incredibly, Dr. Keith admits his show did that. The show sat him down for an on camera interview, but they also set up a camera to capture what he thought he was saying off the record. Seems like the Dr. Keith Ablow show may soon be the subject of a lawsuit.

The whole show was just bizarre. They bragged about getting this big interview but instead of airing the interview as is, it was short clip after short clip. Each clip was interupted by Ablow and his guests. We barely heard from Karr. When we did, of course, he was creepy. He said he loves children's films and remembers having an orgasm when he was only four years old. But nothing he said was all that suprising and it definitely seems the show was trying to dupe Karr just to get the big interview.

AIDS: Hollywood's Epidemic of Choice

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Which prompts the question: why isn't more being done to fight cancer?
There are very few people who do not know someone who has suffered from one type of cancer or another.
Yet, everyday we hear about the Bono's and Oprah's of the world working feverishly to fight AIDS. Their charity work is immeasurable and God bless them for using their celebrity for good.
But let's be honest: AIDS is highly preventable. Unless your having unprotected sex or carelessly sharing needles, chances are you're not going to get AIDS.
Cancer... not so preventable, yet very few celebrities seem to be raising money for cancer research.
Think of the stars who have publically come out to fight cancer. Lance Armstrong. Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas. Can you think of any others?
There are dozens of types of cancer. For the most part we don't know what causes cancer. We do know how AIDS is spread. So, why isn't more being done to find a cure for cancer? Or heart disease?
Every year we have a telethon to help fight muscular dystrophy. So, where's the telethon to fund cancer research?
Many companies like Dannon yogurt are donating money to help fight breast cancer. But how much of the money raised actually goes to fighting cancer?
While it's amazingly wonderful that all these celebrities and organizations are working to fight AIDS, especially in poverty-stricken and uneducated areas, they need to funnel the same big money toward other deadly and more common diseases.
And while they're at it, how about helping some folks in America? Helping the USA is not the trendy thing among many globalist celebrities, but if you're going to take our money, how about giving back to the U.S. for a change?

OUT OF REHAB AND NOT SAYING MUCH
Robin Williams and Mel Gibson are fresh out of rehab and talking. Sort of. Robin Williams made the rounds this week, talking about his new movie. He appeared on David Letterman, but when Letterman asked him about his time in rehab Robin Williams was, well, Robin Williams. All schtick and no serious answers. It's nice that Williams can make light of a serious situation, but it would have been great to hear him answer a few questions without all the comedy.

For a week, "Good Morning America" bragged about scoring the first interview with Mel Gibson since he went on a anti-semitic drunken tirade. They dragged their big get out for two days, but the whole thing was a snooze. Gibson came off like an arrogant, unremorseful buffoon. Gibson called his remarks the "stupid rambling of a drunkard," but offered few apologies. He also revealed that he had enough presense of mind to run a little water through his hair so his mugshot wouldn't look bad. What a vein bastard. Hmmm, if he had the smarts to clean up for his mugshot, then why didn't he have it together enough to shut his mouth when he was arrested? Me thinks he knew exactly what he was saying to the cop that night. Just shameful.

Tyra Takes On Hate

Shirley Phelps is one sick bitch. She is the spokesmouth for the Westboro Baptist Church, which holds hateful "God Hates Fags" signs outside the funerals of soldiers. Today, Tyra Banks confronted her and two of her 11 children on her show. Shirely says they protest soldiers funerals because God must have been mad at them for ending their lives so early. "Those children were cut off by a raging mad god before their life got started," she said.

Things got heated between Tyra and Shirley when Shirley kept accusing Tyra of cutting her off. Tyra yelled at her saying, "I'm not going to sit with you and fight on my stage! So, please be quiet Shirley!" Of course, the audience gave Tyra a roaring applause for standing up to this sick freak.

Later, Shirley's children, Megan and Rebekah, accused Tyra of being a "fag enabler" because of all the gay people she has on "America's Next Top Model." Megan said her mom has taught her to hate since she was young. At five years old she was forced to hold the churches hateful signs. Just sickening. One real shocker: the girls told Tyra that they don't have any friends outside of their hateful church. Another big shocker: their church has been bombed and they've been shot at.

Yanks Pitcher Killed in NYC High-Rise Plane Crash

A frightening scene in New York City after a small plane crashes into a high-rise condominium, killing two people. Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and a flying instructor were killed. Smoke and flames poured out of the 52-story building in Manhattan's Upper East Side after the crash. More than 100 firefighters were sent to the scene, conjuring up memories of Nine-Eleven.

The plane was owned and possibly piloted by Lidle. The 34-year-old was on the mound just last Saturday as a relief pitcher for the Yankees in their final game of the season. "This is a terrible and shocking tragedy that has stunned the entire Yankees organization," club owner George Steinbrenner said in a statement.

Dr. Phil House Shut Down!

Dr. Phil is going to have to go house-hunting. The good doctor's television house has been shut down because of bad behavior. The show's production company bought a house in a quiet Los Angeles neighborhood and rigged it with 45 cameras so Dr. Phil could monitor his unruly guests. Neighbors say the house was out of control. There was non-stop noise, yellign and swearing pouring out of the Dr. Phil House. Not to mention, a neighbor says "Dr. Phil" violated the city's ground rules by taping past midnight many nights and starting up again before 7AM. He also says some of the production staff were rude and uncooperative. Tired of the disturbances, 76 residents signed a petition to rid their quiet neighborhood of the dysfunctional Dr. Phil House. They met with city officials last month and production was quickly shut down. The show claims they left because they had already wrapped.

Smallville Star's Naked Parties

Erica Durance has played Louis Lane on "Smallville" for years. It's one of Howard Stern's favorite shows. But he didn't want to talk about Superman today. Turns out, Erica and her husband host clothing optional parties for friends at their home. She said the parties are innocent, but Stern and the crew could not understand how friends walk around naked together. Erica acted like the naked parties were no big thing and wanted to brush off the subject, but everyone wanted to talk about it. As soon as the show went to break, Erica stormed out in tears and refused to talk to the show's news crew. Apparently, she wanted to discuss something other than her bizarre get togethers. Stern said he did not understand why she was so uptight.

Child Stars Revisited

Tyra Banks caught up with some of the stars of 90's television on her talk show today. First up, the great Dustin Diamond of "Saved By The Bell." He didn't talk about his sex tape, but he did discuss the shirts he's selling to save his house. The show bought enough shirts for everyone in the audience. Remember Topanga on "Boy Meets World?" Actress Danielle Fishel talked about her 7 years on the show. More interestingly, she said she dated Lance Bass for about a year and never had a clue he was gay. Somehow, Jonathan Lipnicki from "Jerry Maguire" has grown up. At 16, Lipnicki says he goes to a normal public school just like anyone else. And, one of the darker stories. Remember the second daughter on "Family Matters" who disappeared after two years? Jamie Foxworth said she was never told why she was written of the show. Because of the rejection, she turned to porn at 19 years old. Foxworth said doing porn made her feel degraded and embarassed.

With six corporations controlling the media, there's plenty of room for cross-promotion. The problem is, many times you don't even realize companies are plugging their own shows/magazines, etc. For example, Entertainment Tonight does a segment on Rachael Ray's new show just about every night. It's not because ET producers love her show. It's because "Entertainment Tonight" (Paramount Studios) and the "Rachael Ray Show" (King World) are all under the same Viacom/CBS Corp umbrella. They are simply using one show to promote another. Very sneaky, but very common!
